In the Bay of Plenty there are a growing amount of schools that are participating in Water Polo, please contact your school sports coordinator if you wish to play in the leagues listed below. Tauranga Water polo offer local school leagues in term 1 & 4.
Flippa Ball is designed as an introduction to water polo, played in a shallow pool where children can touch the bottom. Players also learn the fundamentals of water polo: passing, defending, shooting, and the rules of the game. Games are played at different venues where Flippa Ball is played across Tauranga and held at Memorial and Papamoa Swimming Pool.
The cost to enter a team is set at $550.
TGA Flippa Ball 2026 Dates
- Papamoa: Sunday 15th February - Sunday 22nd March
- Memorial: Wednesday 11th February - Wednesday 18th March
Mini polo is a simplified, small-sided version of water polo and most commonly used for youth water polo. This format is designed to teach basics and make game safer and more fun for kids. The league offers A, B & C grades and caters for all intermediate players.
The cost to enter a team is set at $400.

TGA Intermediate 2026 Dates
Term 1: Tuesday 24th February - Tuesday 31st March
Water polo is a fast paced, physical team sport played in a pool where the objective is to score goals by throwing a ball into the opponent's net. The team consists of 7 players (6 field players & 1 goalkeeper). Tauranga Water Polo offer a senior league, games are played at Baywave and a Junior league at Toi Ohomai on Thursday nights. In term 1 we will offer a senior and junior competition.
